March 6, 2007 The key to being free...

This week as we are looking at ‘Walking in Your Deliverance’ at week 7 in the Set Free Seminar, the key ingredient to staying free, is pursuing the one who sets us free, Jesus Christ.

We know that Jesus already triumphed over death by His dying on the cross and being resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Yet we do not see this lived out in people’s lives, even His own people.  Why?

Hebrews 2:7-8 says “You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor and put everything under his feet.  In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him.  Yet at the present we do not see everything subject to him.”

I believe why we see Christians in bondage, even though we know that Jesus has already had everything placed under His feet and He has already triumphed over death, is because our lives are “still not entirely subject to him”.  Meaning to say, we need to bring every part of our lives under the authority of our Lord Jesus—body, soul and spirit.

Thus, we need to pursue Him.  When we are pursuing Christ, the one who sets us free, we will be set free [John 8:36].  When we give more and more of our hearts, souls and bodies to him, we will find that we come under His authority and we find greater freedom in Him.

Mark 8:35 says ‘For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.’

I believe as we give a larger and greater portion of our lives to Jesus with each passing day, we lose our lives for Him [Mark 8:35] and we will see ourselves come under this authority and we will find freedom in our relationship with Him.

Let me encourage you as you are seeking deliverance in your life to pursue Jesus with as much passion as possible.  This looks differently for each of us, but there are key ingredients:  spending time with Him, reading your Bible, worship, prayer, meeting with other believers, attending Church where you can grow and be strengthened.

I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. [Ps. 119:32]

Friends, let’s run after our Lord Jesus together!
