June 25, 2007 - Summer is here…

Summer is here, longer days with late sunsets and no school for the children and youth. Why is it that summer, when we seem to have more time, people tend to check out on God. You thought I was going to say Church didn’t you? But I’m confident that it’s truly God people check out on. It’s not that they have a lot more to do in life during the summer; things tend to slow down, even at work for most people due to people taking vacations. Later hours of sunlight cause people to lose track of the time of day, so evenings tend to be lost to unresolved time loss. Why is it that when we could be doing more for the Kingdom of God, our summers seem to fly by and little is accomplished for the Lord?

Here are some thoughts for this summer so you can look back and say “I was faithful Lord!”

  1. Invite people over for a bar-b-que to get to know them, to pray together, to share what the Lord is telling you. It can be anyone, and you don’t need to have a word for someone before inviting them.
  2. Make a point of being at Church every Sunday, even when you are traveling on vacation. Choose a church to visit in whatever town you’re vacationing. See what other believers are doing on Sunday. Enjoy worshiping with some other Church when you are out of town.
  3. Invite someone, a family to come to Village Chapel with you. Summers are more relaxed for most people and while giving up their Sunday morning for a couple of hours, they still have long afternoons and evenings to leisurely hang out. While you’re at it – invite them over to eat or out to eat after Church.
  4. Take a day trip with people who love Jesus so that you can talk with others about what they do to grow more in love with your Lord during the summer.
  5. Make a commitment to yourself that you’ll read the Bible everyday. Start in the book of Mark or the Psalms. Don’t just read it to say you did, ask the Lord to show you something for yourself and to share with others.
  6. Listen to worship music when you drive, when you are at home, whenever you can.
  7. Choose a book to read this summer that will impact your life. Here’s a few to choose from: “When Heaven Invades Earth” by Bill Johnson, “Dreaming with God” by Bill Johnson, “Sound of Heaven, Symphony of Earth” by Ray Hughes, “Extravagant Worship” by Darlene Zschech, “For Women Only” by Shaunti Feldham, “For Men Only” By Shaunti Feldman, “Hinds Feet on High Places” by Hannah Hurnard, - A Novel? “The Last Jihad” by Joel Robertson  - Then talk about the book with somebody
  8. Join the Snyder’s and others at their house on Friday evenings for Prayer and Prophecy. Check the Worship Folder/Bulletin for the evenings that we’re meeting.
  9. Just have some people over and pray for each other, if you need to offer food to get them to come, do it.
  10. Take a walk and talk with God

These are just a few thoughts, why not come up with some of your own?
