February 26, 2007 - Have a cold?
You know how colds slow you down? They just seem to hang on and hang around your life, little aches here, sinus pain there. Then about the time you think you should be feeling better, sometimes the coughing gets worse. It can keep you up at night, it can break out at any time. The hacking cough, the pain it brings to your throat? Yeah, that’s been my week or so.
Right after Winter Camp it started with the scratchy feeling in the back of my throat. I fought it for a few days. Telling it to go away, calling on our Lord to make me well. But here’s the thing I’m realizing. I have still been able to minister, to worship, to read the Bible even with a cold. Oh yeah, it’s a little distracting to cough and blow my nose while trying to focus on God, but here’s the thing – I still can. God hasn’t left me or abandoned me because I caught a cold. Caught a cold, what’s that about. If I catch a baseball or a football it’s because I am trying to right? So, how do you catch a cold? That’s another blog.
My point here is even though it slows you down this thing we call a cold, it doesn’t stop our God from being who He is in our lives. We keep fighting through the cold and eventually it goes away. You know what the Doctor says, “It’s a run of the mill virus, can’t really give you any medication for it. It should go away in 7 to 10 days.” Why do mine usually last twice that long?
Well, be healthy and even if you are fighting a cold, fight the good fight, fight to win and don’t ever give up following Jesus.
