February 25, 2009 - What are you expecting?
Pastor Norm Willis was at Village Chapel a week ago; he spoke to us about Expectations. What am I expecting? What am I expecting God will be doing in my life, in our ministry? It seems that unless we expect God to move, we may just miss what He is doing. I can hear about God moving, watch what Holy Spirit is doing - yet if I don't believe He is going to impact me - even if He does, I will miss it.
The other day at Starbucks while sitting around a table with several friends Jim Ford said, "He knows what he believes, but he doesn't believe what he knows." You see, that's the problem with most of us; we have little expectation of what God is going to do, and really don't believe what we think we believe. How does that work? Well, if I think I believe something but never see God acting on it, then do I really believe it? Saying I believe in healing, when I never see anyone healed, isn’t truly believing.
How does that all fit with expectations. When I expect God to heal someone, and believe He heals, my expectation rises to a place of faith and I will see healing begin to happen around me. If I believe in the gifts of Holy Spirit, and start watching for them as well as moving in them, then those gifts will rise up within me (2 Tim 1:6-7). So, on a friendly note, ask yourself - what am I expecting God to do? Someone once said, "Blessed are those who expect nothing for they shall not be disappointed."
Don't be one of those people who expect nothing - start watching for and expecting Holy Spirit to do amazing things. As my friend, Tracey Armstrong said once, "God wants to put some super on your natural." Have a supernatural day!
